oh! my god

Oh! my gosh Lily, you've done it again...our song of the moment 'Oh! my God' by Mark Ronson featuring Lily Allen...one of the best tracks of Ronson's latest foray 'Versions'.

Here, Miss Allen tackles the Kaiser Chiefs' "Oh My God" with her token gum-chewing insouciance...you can't help but feel good and bob your head after hearing this song...so reprazent and start wearing your Air Max 90's with swagger!

p.s. Don't forget to check out the upcoming Buzzin' Fly Vol. 4 due to be released 21st May, 2007! It's already won over many plaudits including Mixmag's Comp of the Month. I'm soooo looking forward to this.

anthemic soul

"The best album of 2007 so far....an impeccable journey through progressive soul"

4hero's new LP 'Play With The Changes' is an absolute cracker! It comprises two distinct styles: lush soul with a vintage slant and future futuristic soul with an electronica feel.

It features our track of the moment 'Morning Child' with Carina Anderson (of 'Les Fleur' fame) on vocals. Guaranteed to give you that extra bounce in your step and make even the most cold-hearted feel all warm and gooey inside. A future-classic in the making!

The albums guests include Kaidi Tatham, Larry Mizell, Jody Watley and Phonte from Little Brother who bring quality to the mix while maintaining the 4hero sound we've come to love. The perfect driving album for winter, autumn, spring and summer, all year around. 'Play With The Changes' has cemented 4hero as our favourite 'drum'n'bass group', however, this album shows they are so much more capable of conquering other genres also.
Do yourself a favour and get this album by any means necessary. Your soundtrack to the immediate future and beyond is definitely here!

We'll meet again

Sydney, 21h15, temperature 17 degrees, humidity 91%, fair.
I must apologize for the lateness of this post. There's no real excuse really besides procrastination. Well, better late then never uh?

As you may or may not know, barely_broke went on its first overseas tour recently to Laos! Even though, nowadays it’s just a short boat ride (or frantic swim) across the Mekong, technically we did cross international borders.

It was good to see that the barely_broke gospel is being properly preached over there and as a result the scene is now thriving! Be it via word of mouth, stickers on back of cars or even home made tees, the barely_broke word is being voiced loud and clear...Spread love, oh spread love!

Above and below is an assortment of photos taken over those crazy Beer Lao filled days and nights! Let's just say, we were still knockin 'em back 30 minutes before take off... And the last night, my gosh! Surely Saturday's session at Romeo's with Blackbean and Raspberri and the rest of the Laos set will go down as an all-time monster. Massive thanks to all who firestarted (or should I say 'smacked') that one! Youu knowww!

Pics below either courtesy of that nice woman, Ee-Nat, or snitched off Nang cos I’m just too damn lazy!

Sorry about the one month long hiatus...been really busy of late. However, hard work never dampens the barely broke mood...If anything it has the opposite effect. This little passage is a testament to that!

Words from the CEO himself:

"Working hard at Sri panwa... Wakeboarding after an inspection at Rayavadee,Krabi infront of Happy Islands...Loving it! Trying hard to be optimistic at all times..."

Spoken like a true General!

Pop back soon to check out the lastest b.b. wallpaper plus coming soon our favourite albums of all time. Please feel free to make any suggestions.

can i get an amen?

Check out:

http://nkhstudio.com/pages/popup_amen.html

"Can I Get An Amen? is an audio installation that unfolds a critical perspective of perhaps the most sampled drum beat in the history of recorded music, the Amen Break."
A history lesson of the finest kind. This is definetly food for thought! A very interesting documentary and a must for anyone even remotely interested in the phenomenon that is 'sampled music'.
Enjoy.

ever since I can remember, I bin poppin' my collar

Smile - Lily Allen

A summer jam of the sweetest variety...Deceptively sugary bubble gum beat flavoured with infectious razor-sharp lyrics taken from her simple yet smart but enormously likeable little debut album, Alright, Still.
Love her or not, there is no denying the fact that Lily Allen IS the poster-girl of the myspace generation. I can’t think of a recording that’s surprised or excited me more so far this year. Come to think about it I can't even remember the last time when I have fallen so deeply for a so-called 'pop' album full stop! Trust me when I say debut LP don't come much better than this. Buy it or steal it, no matter what you do, GET THIS ALBUM!
'Ever since I can remember, I bin poppin' my collar' - Lily Allen, 2006
Sincerely,
phats

formalities

Sorry,

This should have been our very first post! It's just a little insight of where and how we came about. Let's say a small introduction into barely_broke...

The name originally stemmed from the line '..not filthy rich, but bitch i'm barely broke ' - taken from Lord Tarique & Peter Gunz's seminal party anthem 'Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)'.

Founded by a group of upper-middle class folk living in Bangkok (Thailand), barely_broke did not become official till the 05-06 season, though it had been floating around for some time.

Early exposure to the so-called 'good life', that is, free-flowing alcohol and cruisy late nights formed the ideals and values to which barely broke is based upon.

Essentially it is not only a concept, but more so a lifestyle. The phrase 'barely_broke' is a double entendre. It stands to represent where we are now and where we will be in the future.

Nuff said, i'm out!

Words by Nang, for barely_broke productions

p.s. Hope you and the 'boyz' are satisfied now Lao!

just a quickie!

Hey,

It's been a shortish while between drinks..(last post was on the 31st, June, '06). Didn't want you to think that we get lazy! Been a little busy that's all.

Still mulling over a brew or two, about the the barely broke agenda for '06/0'7. Summer or winter either way you look at it. A few ideas are being washed around in my crown, but who knows what will eventuate. Will keep you posted!

Gotta roll,

Tahra

p.s. Keep the dream alive!
